Why would Charles Dickens, beloved author of A Christmas Carol, Oliver Twist, David Copperfield, A Tale of Two Cities and many other classic books, write a simple retelling of the life of Christ for his children's eyes only, requesting that it not be published?

Gerald Charles Dickens vividly portrays his great-great-grandfather in this new play by Jeffrey Hatcher that explores with humor and insight the emotions and forces in Dickens' life at the time of its writing, including his testy relationship with the young poet Swinburne.

A "staged reading" is a step in the development of a play that allows the playwright to see and hear his work take form on stage, helping him to assess its dialogue, flow and dramatic effectiveness.

Sets & costumes are minimal, and the actor will read from the script. It's a fascinating look into a work in process, with an opportunity for the audience to give feedback and ask questions following the performances.

The on-site Box Office
